Russia and World War I (ESL Social Studies)

Introduction

One of my co-teachers asked that I create a lesson on Russia and World War I since he knows that I speak Russian as a second language, and I lived in Russia. This lesson engages students throughout by being in a PearDeck format (free version), and it has a group activity at the end.

The start of the lesson reviews World War I knowledge broadly. It then hones in more specifically on Russia during World War I. The presentation portion on Russia helps the students to be better informed when comparing and contrasting propaganda from Russia and the United States during World War I. The final portion of the lesson has students comparing and contrasting the the same propaganda that the students were guided through as a class but in groups and with assigned roles. The assigned roles allows all students to participate by giving easier questions to lower-level students and harder questions to higher-level students. The presentation is uploaded below.
